Low Intensity Radiofrequency Radiation: A New Oxidant For Living Cells

There exist a great number of studies showing the negative effects of non-native EMF. As usual, the cell phone industry has led the way in burying this evidence under fallacious claims of safety and labeling whistle-blowers and truth-tellers as wackos.

Just standard operating procedure to keep the cash flow uninterrupted.

Where have we seen this before?

“Radiofrequency radiation (RFR), e.g. electromagnetic waves emitted by our cell phones and Wi-Fi, are referred to as non-ionizing. This means that in contrast to the ionizing radiation, which does induce  ionization of water and biologically  important macromolecules, RFR does not have a capacity for such effects. Unlike, for example X-rays, the energy of RFR is not enough to break electrons off the molecules. However, is RFR completely safe for public health? Traditionally, the industry and the public bodies said yes. Nevertheless, new research data change this perception.

“Oxidative stress is an induced imbalance between pro-oxidant and antioxidant systems resulting in oxidative damage  to  proteins, lipids and DNA; and is closely connected to overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in living cells. The  notion that the low intensity RFR can bring about significant oxidative stress in living cells has been doubted for years. The logic is simple: as low intensity radiofrequency electromagnetic waves are not able to ionize molecules, they can do nothing   wrong for the living tissues. However, during the last decades a worldwide increase in penetration of wireless communication systems, including cellular telephony and Wi-Fi, attracted massive attention to possible biological effects of low intensity RFR. Consequently, the recent epidemiological studies unexpectedly indicated a significant increase in the occurrence of various  tumors among longterm and “heavy” users of cellular phones. These include brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, tumors of parotid  glands, seminomas, melanomas and lymphomas. Similarly, an increase in tumor incidence  among  people  living nearby cellular base transmitting stations was also reported. As a result, in 2011 the World Health Organization/International Agency for Research on Cancer classified radiofrequency radiation as a possible carcinogen to humans.

“To that, a new medical condition, so-called electro-hypersensitivity, in which subjects suffer due to RFR exposure has been described. Typically these people suffer from skin and mucosa related symptoms (itching, smarting, pain, heat sensation), or heart and nervous system disorders after exposure to computer monitors, cell phones and other electromagnetic devices. This malady is growing continuously: starting from 0.06% of the total population in 1985 this category now includes as much as 9-11% of the European population.

“A number of experimental studies demonstrate metabolic effects induced by low intensity RFR. Notwithstanding the non-ionizing nature of RFR, profound mutagenic effects and features of significant oxidative stress in living cells under low
intensity RFR exposure were detected using various biological models. Some of the papers however still show an absence of  biological effects. To clarify the picture, we analyzed peer-reviewed publications on oxidative effects of RFR and found
altogether 80 currently available papers, of which a remarkable part, 76 papers (92.5%), reported the detection of significant oxidative stress. These effects most often included overproduction of ROS, lipid peroxidation/increased concentrations of malondialde-hyde, protein peroxidation, increased concentrations of nitric oxide (NO) and changes in the   activity of antioxidant enzymes. Some papers point to the role of particular ROS and the ROS related pathways.

“Whatever the particular first-step molecular mechanisms, it is clear that the substantial overproduction of ROS in living cells under low intensity RFR exposure could cause a broad spectrum of health disorders and diseases, including cancer in humans. Undoubtedly, this calls for the further intensive research in the area, as well as to a precautionary approach in routine usage of wireless devices.”(1)

Contrails vs. Chemtrails (Aerosols)

There is also of course the fact that climate science circles and governments around the globe are clamoring for climate engineering to be deployed, though none in these communities of tyrants and cowards will yet admit to the truth. Our society has been well trained to accept the official narrative on countless issues which is how those in power hide their crimes in plain site. The fact that so many official explanations are completely contrary to reason and the laws of physics seems not to matter to most of the population, “ignorance is bliss” as the saying goes.” (2)

“Here is the fact of the matter: all commercial jet aircraft and all military tankers are fitted with a type of jet engine that is by design nearly incapable of producing any condensation trail except under the most extreme circumstances, the high bypass turbofan.” (2)

When condensation trails are formed behind jet aircraft they dissipate quickly without lingering or spreading out into various patterns.

Please keep in mind that given the fact that, as stated above, all commercial jet aircraft and all military tankers are fitted with the high bypass turbofan jet engines, this means that any trails emitting from these aircraft, whether long or short, are not contrails.

The increasing amount of public awareness concerning the spraying of aerosols overhead has resulted in the increasing use of non-persistent aerosol trails that look similar to contrails, since they appear to dissipate the same way a contrail would, but just like persistent aerosol trails they form immediately upon exiting the planes wings or tail.

Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars

Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars, An Introduction Programming Manual was uncovered quite by accident on July 7, 1986 when an employee of Boeing Aircraft Co. purchased a surplus IBM copier for scrap parts at a sale, and discovered inside details of a plan, hatched in the embryonic days of the “Cold War” which called for control of the masses through manipulation of industry, peoples’ pastimes, education and political leanings. It called for a quiet revolution, putting brother against brother,
and diverting the public’s attention from what is really going on.

Epigenetics- Conditions of Existence

There has been an ever increasing amount of information coming from the scientific press that each individual has, through no fault of their own, a silent killer, or two or three, hiding in their DNA deep inside their body’s cells. Many of these press releases characterize the development of genetically connected diseases as virtually inevitable, with the result being that individuals become terrified concerning their supposed fate. The articles are often written as though the particular genetic marker is laying in wait for the right moment to express itself and inflict its damage on the helpless victim.

More and more people are nervously getting tested for their genetic profile in order to prepare for the inevitability of any number of disturbing diseases. Unfortunately, those in the medical establishment, who have a primary focus on cash flow, are adding to the paranoia that many people are experiencing, by offering everything from pharmaceuticals to surgical preventatives so people can feel more safe from their impending doom. The recent stories about Angelina Jolie having her breasts removed after she found out she had genetic markers for the development of breast cancer, is a prime example of the current extreme solutions being put forth by this kind of thinking.

There is clearly validity to certain aspects of the science of genetics, but the current exaggerated paranoid focus on genetic disease markers is not based on valid scientific interpretation. This misinterpretation has led to warnings that are blown way out of proportion, having no direct connection to actual inherent threats.

According to the Human Genome Project, which did a thorough study of human DNA, we all have twenty-two thousand genes, for all sorts of bodily aspects, good and bad. Not all of these genes are actively expressed, which is a good thing, while many remain dormant. A gene will not express itself at all unless the environment surrounding it becomes favorable to that expression. As an example, a cancer gene needs certain environmental requirements to be met before it can activate. The determinant here isn’t genetics, it’s epigenetics.

Epigenetics involves the study of changes in the regulation of gene activity and expression that are not dependent on gene sequence. Epigenetics refers to both heritable changes in gene activity and expression (in the progeny of cells or of individuals) and also stable, long-term alterations in the transcriptional potential of a cell that are not necessarily heritable. In other words, epigenetic changes can modify the activation of certain genes, but not the sequence of DNA. Additionally, the chromatin proteins associated with DNA may be activated or silenced. This is why the differentiated cells in a multi-cellular organism express only the genes that are necessary for their own activity.

Epigenetic changes are preserved when cells divide. Most epigenetic changes only occur within the course of one individual organism’s lifetime, but, if gene inactivation occurs in a sperm or egg cell that results in fertilization, then some epigenetic changes can be transferred to the next generation.

DNA damage can also cause epigenetic changes. DNA damages are very frequent, occurring at a rate of 1,000 to 1,000,000 molecular lesions per cell per day. These damages are largely repaired, but at the site of a DNA repair, epigenetic changes can remain.

So the term epigenetics could be described as referring to those things that have influence over our genes, leading to gene expression or gene silencing. Epigenetic influences would include chemicals, nutrients, electromagnetic radiation, including various wavelengths of light, along with any other environmental influence on the body’s biological function. We are all products of our environment.

Our genes are the first draft of what we are created to be, but the experience those genes face determines how our life plays out over time. In other words, it’s not the genes alone that predispose us to disease, but rather those things within our diet and environment that act upon our genes. As a conservative estimate in genetics, the average person actually controls anywhere from a low of 80 percent to upward of 97 percent or more of their own genetic expression with respect to potential disease processes and longevity.

It is vitally important that we stop focusing on disease states and instead think about what happens to the cell’s environment that dictates its fate. There is a lot of data over the last fifty years that shows that humans functioning in an “altered field” will experience symptoms common to diseases such as obesity, Hashimoto’s, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and diabetes. The field refers to the local environment that cells and the organism find themselves in. The field constantly changes as we move through the environment. This includes the nutrients available to us and the electromagnetic field around us.

DNA has been shown experimentally to be controlled by a magnetic field. Whatever activates and electrifies DNA is the major determining factor in genetic expression. Genetic expression is directly tied to the electromagnetic field that life lives in. To deny it is to deny experiments already proving it is true.

The field we face at sea level is not the same as the one on the top of Everest. The field we experience near a fault next to a volcano is not the same as the one found on an ice sheet in Antarctica. Since our brain never perceives the field through vision, sound, touch, taste, or smell, the mind never accounts for the effect of the field on its cells. It is almost like it never exists. This problem is compounded when you consider that, in our modern world, a child’s brain has to navigate an altered electromagnetic background before it is fully developed. As it turns out, children are more sensitive to the field because their brains are un-myelinated. Myelin provides some protection, to the deeper grey brain matter, from the effects of an altered electromagnetic field.

This information allows us to gain insights into just how the field affects human epigenetic expression. The field dictates all epigenetic expression and it extends to trans-generational epigenetics as well. Genes are important, but they are not the dominant player modern science believes they are. The ‘field’ makes the call when gene products should and need to be expressed. If the electromagnetic field has been altered from the native frequencies that humans originally developed within, then the result will be alterations in gene expression with potentially damaging results. These are things we need to pay deep attention to if we are going to understand the mystery of how our genes are expressed.

Darwin was right about the conditions of existence being more important than natural selection for life. He said this in his original book on evolution. He spent the rest of his life trying to figure out what controlled this biologic process. Today, conditions of existence have been renamed, and they are called epigenetics. It turns out the “on and off switch” that Darwin was looking for in our genome is an ELF (extremely low frequency) electromagnetic radiation, called the Schumann resonance. It was not discovered until 93 years after Darwin wrote The Origin of Species. The Schumann resonance is an ELF in the lowest energy and frequency range of the electromagnetic spectrum and our brain cannot see it, touch it, or smell it but our cells sense it using quantum resonance. It is below the power of the visible light spectrum where the photoelectric reigns supreme.

Energy has many forms on Earth and ……the photoelectric effect is the most powerful form of energy in our world. Biology uses it and the ELF of the Earth’s magnetic field to control genetic expression. This is an ELF that few seem to realize but has major physiologic power to control how genes are expressed in wellness and in disease states by affecting water chemistry and protein chemistry.

Water is the perfect chemical magnetic dipole, so this is why it is the major substrate on the earth to becomes active or passive in energy transfers with the earth’s magnetic field. When water finds itself in our native magnetic field, water becomes able to transfer more energy from the sun’s light to living things. This is why water is the liquid of life and is called liquid sunshine by some biologists. When water exists in an extreme low frequency (ELF) EMF field, as was normally found on earth before 1850, water’s hydrogen bonds oscillate and resonate at 7.83 Hz or harmonics of this frequency up to 89 Hz. In actuality, the earth magnetic field alters itself seasonally from 0-30Hz due to the sun’s magnetic field.

These changes in micropulsations directly act upon life by changing DNA and RNA expression. We call this epigenetics. How does this happen? The amount of oscillations from these extremely low frequency natural EMFs cause a favorable change in the hydrogen bonds of water to alter the bonding angles in the dipoles of water molecules to become maximally efficient to transfer energy from the sun to our cells. Since 1950, this magnetic field has been radically altered by man.

Another reason genes are not the whole story is that humans have more non coding DNA than every other primate. Our genome is only the first copy of life. It is the stage. It is not the map for a whole life. This helps explain why only 2 percent of the human genome codes for proteins. Ninety-eight percent of the human genome codes for retrotransposons, or junk DNA. Today we know that 99.3% of our DNA is used to alter our genome based upon epigenetic signaling. This is why humans have more non coding DNA (ncDNA) than any other animal on the planet. It turns out that ncDNA contains the epigenetic instructions of how to energize the proteins in our genome to alter function based upon environmental pressures. In this, “junk DNA” are the instructions for how energy transforms matter. The instructions energy gives, specifically electromagnetic energy, to our non-coding DNA is what ultimately makes us different. These energies come from our environment.

This is how biology works. Energy changes the structure and function of matter. Proteins are a form of matter. Energy sculpts what proteins can and will do and how they will act in a cell. This is called conditions of existence, or epigenetics, today. Protein is the matter coded for by DNA. Chimps and humans share the same genes 99.9% but we differ radically in how we energize our DNA. This is what ultimately makes us a different species.

The current variations from the original native electromagnetic frequencies have resulted in the increasingly common diseases that are seen in medicine today. As these environmental frequencies change, it becomes increasingly necessary to understand how the body’s biochemistry changes so we can alter our therapeutic maneuvers to compensate for these environmental issues.

Today, many of the therapeutic maneuvers that we call evidence-based, are, in fact, removing energy from the biologic system. Removing energy from this system causes it to become more unstable, and it leads to poor cell signaling and disease. Proper cell signaling requires a constant, steady flow of energy within the semiconductors of cells. Any treatments that cause a loss of energy, cause patients to emit more black box radiation. These effects are compounded when we advocate a diet or a modern lifestyle that also allows for more energy losses. This further underscores why carbohydrates are a real problem for modern humans because they only give us 36 ATP, compared to 147 ATP from beta oxidation of fats. Carbohydrates can be utilized by the body when cell signaling is working well. But when this signaling is not working well, as happens on earth today, health issues will result from the ingestion of carbohydrates.

The science of epigenetics makes clear that our DNA is not our destiny. Our modern beliefs are usually the cause of our epigenetic decline. Today, medicine is hanging its proverbial hat on dogma it calls “evidence-based” that has divorced itself from most epigenetic mechanisms. Evidence-based research is looking at data over a population and then taking that generalization and applying it to a treatment algorithm for a person.

Epigenetic models have already established that our cellular structure can be modified by thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, environment, diet and behavior, thus determining who we are, how we respond to disease, what we are and in many ways, what we will become. To return to the example stated above, cancer is not a genetic disease, it is an epigenetic one linked to massive loss of energy because of choices the person has made knowingly or unknowingly to themselves. Cancer explodes when we lose control of T cell immunity. 

When we lose energy for any reason at all, the brain and the immune system are normally the two systems that go awry first, in our particular species. This is why Neolithic diseases like Alzheimer’s and Hashimoto’s are exploding today, when 120 years ago they were unheard of.

Eating a diet that provides a huge source of energy makes more sense when you are constantly losing energy to your environment. This is why the Epi-paleo template, developed by Dr. Jack Kruse, stands above any other for today’s condition of existence. It is a Rx designed around our epigenetic mechanisms, and not our cultural or medical beliefs. This, however, does not mean it will remain our best option. We must use epigenetics to guide our decisions in the changing environment we are facing today. In fact, the optimal diet for us all may change in the next ten years because of what is happening today in our world. The human diet should never be thought of as static. It must change as the environment we create around us changes.

This implies “our species solution” really is a moving target because of our epigenetic toolbox. An architect far better and smarter than us has given us that epigenetic toolbox, and we now have the ability to use it by altering our behaviors to change our lives.

What About Carbohydrates?

 Let’s take a closer look at carbohydrates to get a better understanding of what they are and how they impact the human body. A carbohydrate is a large biological molecule, or macromolecule, consisting of carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O) atoms, usually with a hydrogen:oxygen atom ratio of 2:1 (as in water). The carbohydrates (saccharides) are divided into four chemical groups: monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides. The monosaccharides and disaccharides, which are smaller (lower molecular weight) carbohydrates, are commonly referred to as sugars. While the scientific nomenclature of carbohydrates is complex, the names of the monosaccharides and disaccharides very often end in the suffix -ose. For example, grape sugar is the monosaccharide glucose, cane sugar is the disaccharide sucrose, and milk sugar is the disaccharide lactose. Oligosaccharides contain a small number (typically three to nine simple sugars (monosaccharides) and can have many functions including being one of the components of fiber, found in plants. Polysaccharides contain more than ten monosaccharide units with examples including storage polysaccharides such as starch and glycogen, and structural polysaccharides such as cellulose and chitin.

In food science and in many informal contexts, the term carbohydrate often means any food that is particularly rich in the complex carbohydrate starch (such as cereals, bread, tubers and pasta) or simple carbohydrates, such as sugar (found in candy, jams, and desserts). Carbohydrates are a common source of energy in living organisms.

“Carbohydrates are the body’s most efficient way to get everything it needs. Produced by plants through photosynthesis, carbohydrates are made from compounds of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen called sugars or saccharides. Molecules of these simple sugars attach together to make long branching chains called complex carbohydrates. These large carbohydrate molecules are commonly referred to as starch.

When eaten, enzymes disassemble these chains back into the simple sugars. These simple sugars then pass easily through the intestinal wall into the bloodstream for distribution to all the cells in your body. Metabolic processes change these simple sugars into energy.

Dietary fibers are even longer chains of complex carbohydrates – so complex that they don’t get entirely digested. Most fibers eventually end up in the colon and form the bulk of your stool. Many people think fibers are only the husks of grains and the long stringy components in fruits and vegetables, but dietary fibers are present in all plant tissues. Even peeled potatoes, for example, contain lots of fiber.

Carbohydrates are made by plants and stored in their leaves, stems, roots and fruits. Plant foods contain both simple and complex carbohydrates in various amounts. Fruits are often more than 90 percent carbohydrate, but most of their carbohydrates are the sweet-tasting simple forms of carbohydrate, such as glucose and fructose. Green and yellow vegetables store most of their calories as complex carbohydrates, but since they contain very few total calories, the amount of complex carbohydrate they provide in the diet is small. Whole grains (rice and corn), whole grain flours (wheat and rye, as well as whole grain pastas made from them, such as wheat and soba noodles), tubers (potatoes and yams), legumes (beans and peas), and winter squashes (acorn and hubbard) contain large quantities of complex carbohydrates and thus are known as starches. Rice, corn, and other grains, as well as potatoes, typically store about 80 percent of their calories in the form of complex carbohydrates. Beans, peas, and lentils are approximately 70 percent complex carbohydrates.

You’ve probably heard that marathon runners and other endurance athletes “load up” on carbohydrates before an event in order to store energy-providing carbohydrates for the long race. They do this because it works. Loading up on carbohydrates several times a day will give you the energy to race through your busy life.

The only food from animals in which a carbohydrate is found in significant amounts is milk which contains a simple sugar called lactose, but lactose can’t be digested by most adults, and consequently, can cause assorted evidences of indigestion, such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, and hurtful amounts of gas.

In general, Americans eat far too few calories from carbohydrates – only about 40%. To make things worse, the kinds of carbohydrates eaten most commonly are “empty calories” in the form of white sugar, corn syrup, and fructose. (1)

Light and the Circadian Cycle

sleep-99042_640A circadian cycle or rhythm is any biological process that displays an internal, entrainable oscillation of about 24 hours. Entrainment, within the study of chronobiology, occurs when rhythmic physiological or behavioral events match their period and phase to that of an environmental oscillation. Although circadian rhythms are endogenous (“built-in”, self-sustained), they are adjusted (entrained) to the local environment by external cues called zeitgebers, the most important of which is the day/night cycle.

Circadian rhythm is present in the sleeping and feeding patterns of animals, including human beings. There are also clear patterns of core body temperature, brain wave activity, hormone production, cell regeneration, and other biological activities. The activity/rest (sleep) cycle in animals, including humans, is only one set of circadian rhythms that normally are entrained by environmental cues, but is vitally important to the timing of essential, health maintaining, metabolic processes in the body.

In humans, the primary circadian “clock” is located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (or nuclei) (SCN), a pair of distinct groups of cells located in the hypothalamus. The retina of the eye contains “classical” photoreceptors (“rods” and “cones“), which are used for conventional vision. But the retina also contains specialized ganglion cells that are directly photosensitive, and project directly to the SCN, where they help in the entrainment of this master circadian clock. The SCN takes the information on the lengths of the day and night from the retina, interprets it, and passes it on to the pineal gland, a tiny structure shaped like a pine cone and located on the epithalamus. In response, the pineal secretes the hormone melatonin.

Secretion of melatonin peaks at night and ebbs during the day and its presence provides information about night-length. The melatonin signal forms part of the system that regulates the sleep–wake cycle by chemically causing drowsiness and lowering the body temperature. Besides its function as synchronizer of the biological clock, melatonin is a powerful free-radical scavenger and wide-spectrum antioxidant. Melatonin is an antioxidant that can easily cross cell membranes and the blood–brain barrier, providing important protection against mitochondrial oxidative stress. Production of melatonin by the pineal gland is inhibited by light to the retina and permitted by darkness. Its onset each evening is called the dim-light melatonin onset (DLMO). It is principally blue light, around 460 to 480 nanometers, that suppresses melatonin, with the effect being proportional to the light intensity and length of exposure.

Until recent history, humans in temperate climates were exposed to few hours of (blue) daylight in the winter; their fires gave predominantly yellow spectrum light. The incandescent light bulb widely used in the twentieth century produced relatively little blue light. The current use of Daylight type light bulbs, fluorescent lights, compact fluorescent light bulbs, LED light bulbs, LED computer screens and LED TV screens all emit high amounts of blue spectrum light.

Chronic use of artificial blue light is equivalent to chronic excessive carbohydrates because both contain excessive photoelectric energies. This alters mitochondrial functioning after a period of time because our mitochondria evolved expecting a seasonal variation of energies in both photons and electrons. It destroys the brain’s ability to properly signal environmental signs to our cellular machinery. It affects this molecular machinery pretty quickly by fast forwarding our circadian chemical clocks to light. These clocks are all biologically tied to the cell cycle that controls growth.

Normally after four hours of darkness there is a surge of the pituitary secretion of Prolactin, from approximately 12 to 2 AM. The prolactin release is required for proper control of sleep stages and yoking sleep and metabolism, with the primary benefit being as the signal the hypothalamus uses to release growth hormone from 2 AM to 5 AM during sleep stages 2-4. This allows the process of autophagy to be maximally efficient during sleep.

Autophagy is cellular renewal, with the synthesis, degradation and recycling of cellular components and is critical to the healthy maintenance of the body. If autophagy is poor, an individual suffers more diseases and ages faster because their sleep is uncoupled from their metabolism. They are chronically using old protein enzymes that have not been renewed during sleep.  When old proteins and enzymes are used chronically, the result is altered cell signaling, which leads to disease generation.

The surge of Prolactin is normally quite strong in normal darkness but is significantly diminished in artificially lit environments after sunset. This reduction has vitally important effects on human health. Prolactin release is coordinated with sleep cycles where autophagy is at its highest efficiency and where Growth Hormone is released. Growth hormone (GH or HGH), also known as somatotropin or somatropin, is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell reproduction and regeneration in humans and other animals. When we see chronic lowered prolactin surges we also see lower growth hormone secretion during the anabolic phases of sleep. Lowered chronic GH secretion directly affects cardiac and skeletal muscle function because the process of autophagy is made less efficient as we age. Lowered GH and the sex steroid hormones at sleep lead to loss of cardiac function. When growth hormone is not released in normal amounts, it also decreases our lean muscle mass, and increases our body fat percentage in all our organs and in our body. This leads to slowly declining organ dysfunction and poor body composition. Prolactin is the trigger for GH release at night. GH decreases abdominal fat cells and simultaneously increases your lean muscle mass and allows for major protein synthesis. Its levels fall off a cliff for most women after age 40 and for men after age fifty and there is a corresponding drop in the efficiency of sleep and autophagy. This is why older people sleep less than younger people. If this Prolactin release is diminished, cell regeneration is severely impacted while lower DHEA levels result along with higher inflammation due to an increase in inflammatory cytokines. These cytokines are destructive to cell membrane and nuclear signaling, potentially leading to various disease states as well as aging diseases.  DHEA has been shown to prevent chronic inflammation and it slows the aberrant signaling that is commonly found in the immune system when it is turned on by any pathogen, self or foreign.

An added complication is that the normal large circadian prolactin surge we should see at around midnight, after leptin enters the brain, does not happen if the patient has leptin resistance, sleep apnea, or has eaten food too close (within 3-4 hours) to bedtime. This blocks leptin’s ability to enter the brain because insulin spikes block leptin from binding to its receptor in the hypothalamus.

This makes it clear that sleep, which is correctly yoked to the circadian day/night, light/dark cycle is tied directly to optimal cell cycle functioning and directly to cell mediated immunity. It is also evident that sleep directly effects the chronic diseases of aging and likely plays a role in cancer development.

In order to achieve and maintain optimal health, one should align their lifestyle and sleeping habits as closely as possible to the light/dark circadian cycle by utilizing the following suggestions:

1) Use a minimal amount of artificial lighting. 

2) If artificial lighting is found to be necessary, one should utilize yellow spectrum lighting sources in place of blue spectrum lighting.

3) If utilizing blue lighting sources is mandatory, wearing glasses that block blue light in the hours before bedtime may decrease melatonin loss.

4) Avoid looking at bright screens beginning two to three hours before bed.

5) Refrain from eating three to four hours before sleep in order to prevent an insulin spike that will block leptin from performing its role in the circadian metabolic process.

6) The sleeping area should ideally be free of any artificial lighting.

7) If night lights are necessary, use red lights which have the least effect on melatonin production.

8) If necessary, the ingestion of small amounts of melatonin several hours before sleep, can also be used to shift the circadian clock earlier, thus promoting earlier sleep onset.

A number of studies have concluded that a short period of sleep during the day, such as a power-nap, does not have any measurable effect on normal circadian rhythms but can decrease stress and improve productivity.

It should be evident from the information above that anyone who is interested in achieving and maintaining optimal health, should avoid working repeated night-shift hours, whether on alternating nights or not. This sort of circadian mismatch will most certainly lead to serious health issues the longer it continues, and will necessitate a prolonged period of time for health recovery once it is discontinued.

Water is often ignored as an important factor in achieving optimal health. Even many health conscious people give little thought to the actual quality of the water they are drinking, assuming that if the water is free of harmful microbes, then it is beneficial to the body. Water is commonly referred to as the ‘universal solvent’, which indicates its ability to dissolve an incomparable number of substances. This fact, along with the essential use of water in every metabolic process in the body, highlights the importance of consuming pure, clean, quality, health building water. water-90781_640

The elemental designation for water is H2O, which indicates that it contains two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. In nature, water is never found as one single molecule, but exists as a group of H2O molecules clustered together. In nature, the minimum number of H2O molecules clustered together is normally five or six, which is found with some spring water and deep artesian well water. Most tap water is composed of water that contains ’20-H2O’ to ’30-H2O’ clustering, which is related to the presence of contaminants, with their ability to give the water a ‘stickier’ quality.

The human body is composed of approximately 55 to 60% water, with the brain being composed of roughly 70 to 80%. Our blood is made up of 93% water. The brain and spinal cord of every mammal is surrounded by water.

A small percentage of the body’s water can be produced through metabolic processes, while the remaining water requirements must be satisfied through the diet.

Research has shown that micro-structured water, which reduces clustering of water molecules into smaller, ‘5-H2O’ or ‘6-H2O’ clusters, more easily penetrates cell membranes, increasing hydration and thereby improving cell metabolic functions. Dissolved substances in water increase the size of the clusters of water molecules, making the water less hydrating.

Its important to be aware that even drinking juices or teas is far less hydrating than drinking pure clean water, while the drinking of sweetened liquids of any kind may increase the retention of water, further decreasing the re-hydration of the cells. For this reason its always best to drink pure clean water in order to optimally satisfy the body’s metabolic needs.

An increasing amount of recent research on the role of water in cell biology, has shown the vital importance of water in cellular communication, with water being more like a liquid crystal semiconductor, with information-storage capacity, and also functioning like a battery, rather than water just functioning as a simple solvent. This discovery heightens the importance of adequate cellular hydration for optimal communication between cells and optimal brain function.

Additional recent research has also served to strengthen the case that water has the ability to store impressions it receives from substances and energies that it is subjected to. Water retains the memory of all the impressions it receives, both the good and the bad. Even filtered water can retain the memory of pesticides, pharmaceuticals as well as other poisons that are released into the air or spread on lawns or agricultural fields. Studies have shown that some influences on water last only a few minutes while others seem to persist for several days or months.

The atomic and subatomic memory of water is clearly evidenced by the action of highly diluted homeopathic medications. While high-powered microscopes are unable to detect the slightest trace of the initial substance in the dilutions, the resulting diluted homeopathic water has demonstrable affects when ingested into the body. Paradoxically, the more diluted the substance, the stronger its homeopathic affect. Although no device exists capable of detecting this micro-information on the bio-physical plane, its existence is clearly demonstrated. Further research in this area would undoubtedly shed a great deal more light on the storage of influencing substances and energies in water and their affects on human health.

A more easily, well researched aspect of water, relates to the many physical and emotional issues that can result from chronic dehydration. The body exhibits the sensation of thirst when it is suffering from a reduction in water reserves and by that point it may be deficient by as much as 2%. Reducing the body’s water content by as little as 2%, through diuresis or dehydration, can result in noticeable fatigue, along with confused thinking and disorientation. As a result, many doctors and naturopaths recommend drinking water before you become thirsty.  A reduction of 10% can cause problems ranging from musculoskeletal issues (joint pain, back pain, cramps) to digestive issues (heartburn, constipation), immune problems or allergies, and cardiovascular symptoms or anginal pain.

Symptoms that can be associated with chronic dehydration include:

Remaining adequately hydrated is dependent on ingesting enough water to replace water that is eliminated through the various metabolic activities occurring in the body. A commonly held rule of thumb for daily water intake is to take your body weight, divide it by two and drink that amount in ounces of water per day. For example: Body weight 130 lbs divided by 2, equals 65 ounces per day. For any dehydrating medications or beverages, such as coffee, tea, alcohol, some herbal teas, all juices and sodas, add another 12 to 16 ounces of pure water to your daily intake for every 8 ounces of diuretic beverage consumed. This is one reason why coffee is served with a glass of water in some parts of the world.

Strenuous physical activity may also require the ingestion of additional water to keep up with metabolic needs. Drinking more than a gallon a day should be avoided, however, since too much water can also adversely affect the body’s metabolism.

Along with the essential need to stay hydrated is the need to be sure that the water ingested is free of harmful substances. Testing of water sources is discovering an increasing number of hazardous substances, including prescription and illegal drugs, birth control pills, pesticides, herbicides, fracing chemicals, heavy metals and many other of the one hundred thousand toxic chemicals utilized around the world. The ingestion of these harmful substances can cause severe health problems and will block any chance at achieving optimal health.

An overview of the different categories of water gives various options, which also differ in their ability to aid in the achievement and maintenance of optimal health. Please note that the water from all of these sources should ideally be tested to determine if it is free of harmful substances and filtered, if necessary, to insure purity:

Spring Water– The best choice, if available and affordable, is natural mountain spring or artesian spring water, since it is often micro-structured and highly energized, and frequently uncontaminated with harmful organisms and substances. The water at Lourdes in France, as well as other highly popular artesian waters, are of this health building quality.

Well Water– The next best choice would be well water that is free of harmful chemicals and harmful biological organisms. The problem with this water, however, is that its source is a water vein or aquifer, which, particularly on the plains, can be polluted with a long list of poisons due to factory farming and high-yield agriculture.

Rainwater– Ground water evaporates and rises in a purified form into the atmosphere, where it accumulates and eventually returns to earth as rain or other forms of precipitation. Since rain results from the evaporation of water, the resulting collected rainwater is lacking in mineral salts.

There has been an ongoing discussion about the effect on the body of mineral ‘deficient’ water, with claims that minerals already in the body are leached out of the bones, teeth and other tissues of the body, and excreted, leaving the body deficient in critical minerals necessary for health. There are also contrary claims that since the body obtains the overwhelming majority of minerals from ingested food, that any lack of minerals in the water is insignificant in its affect on health. Along with this claim is the idea that organically bound minerals in food are much better absorbed and utilized by the body anyway, minimizing the problem of a lack of inorganic minerals in water. And related to this, it is also claimed that some inorganic minerals in the water are deposited in joints and other areas in the body as a way of preventing them from adversely interfering with metabolic activities. Additional studies of these claims would go a long way in establishing how vital mineralized water actually is to the overall health of the body. Rainwater also may contain various types of industrial wastes and evaporated pollutants that were suspended in the atmosphere. Acid rain is a common result of these pollutants, with its deposition being a health threat to all living things.

Surface Water– Water collected on the earth’s surface in streams, lakes, pools or ponds is also subject to the dissolution of the various pollutants that have been deposited on the land. Water on the surface of these various sources is affected to some extent by daylight and sunlight. Heating will result in the water losing oxygen and too much exposure to sun can result in the growth of bacteria and algae.

Tap Water– Along with the need to filter out any number of the thousands of toxic chemicals and heavy metals in tap water, is the additional fact that in the United States, tap water typically contains chlorine and/or chloramines as well as added fluoride. Since all of these chemicals are highly toxic, it is essential that they are filtered out if your intention is to drink purified tap water. Since most tap water is pressurized, it is also important to consider the effect of pressurization on the water. The molecule clusters of water that have been compressed have a lessened ability to dissolve and eliminate impurities, which may result in the deposition of these harmful substances in joints and on the walls of the blood vessels. Water that has been pressurized is also less capable of supplying the body’s cells with the essential nutrients needed for optimal health.

Boiled Water– The boiling of water has been used for thousand of years as a way to make it so that it can be ingested with a lessened ability to make one sick. It is a single step process which eliminates most microbes responsible for causing intestine related diseases. In places having a proper water purification system, it is only advocated as an emergency treatment method or for obtaining potable water in the wilderness or in rural areas, but it cannot remove all chemical toxins or impurities. The traditional advice of boiling water for ten minutes is mainly for additional safety, since microbes start getting eliminated at temperatures greater than 60 °C (140 °F). Boiling water is reputed to be an effective method to eliminate the micro-information contained in water molecules. Brief boiling for just a few seconds will allow it to lose its memory only briefly, with the water reconstructing itself after a few minutes. According to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine it is necessary to boil the water for seven minutes in order to eliminate the micro-information completely.

Distilled Water– Distillation consists of bringing water to a boil until it begins to vaporize, leaving mineral sediment behind. The vapor is collected in a container and once cooled, it turns back into liquid. Back when our atmosphere wasn’t contaminated, rain was pure and clean, much like distilled water. With the current widespread contamination of water with hundreds of thousands of potential chemicals, an important consideration is that any volatile organic compounds (VOCs) will evaporate before the water does.

In a properly made distillation unit, the tap water is preheated to just below the boiling point to drive off the compounds that are lighter than water. Once those compounds have evaporated, the water is heated just to the boiling point and is sent to the condensation chamber to return to its liquid state as pure water. A unit that doesn’t include the preheating phase will evaporate the VOCs along with the water, so they’ll condense with the steam and remain in the finished product. While this won’t concentrate the harmful compounds, it will leave the purifying job half done. With the proper unit you will end up with pure distilled water. There are those that claim that distillation is the only way to insure that the water is free of harmful substances. As was the case with rainwater, there are various claims about the effect on the body of water lacking minerals.

Filtered WaterCarbon Filters– Most carbon filters utilize a special form of carbon called activated carbon. Water easily passes through an activated carbon filter, which provides an almost unbelievably large surface area (125 acres per pound). Activated carbon is used in both the solid block and granular forms. It takes water longer to pass through block carbon, which makes this form more effective at absorbing contaminants. Activated carbon filters are best suited for removing organic pollutants like insecticides, herbicides and PCB’s. They can also remove many industrial chemicals and chlorine. Activated carbon will not remove most inorganic chemicals, dissolved heavy metals (like lead) or biological contaminants. Carbon filters provide a fertile breeding ground for bacteria. If water hasn’t been treated with chlorine, ozone or some other bactericidal method before undergoing carbon filtration, any bacteria in the water will become trapped inside the filter and further contaminate the water that runs through it.

Carbon filters also begin to lose their effectiveness over time. As the filter reaches its absorption capacity, more and more impurities will be left in the water. And since the water will continue to flow easily through the filter, there is no true way of knowing if the filter is still functioning properly without running a water quality test. This makes it essential that the filter be changed at regular intervals or when its water filtration capacity has been reached, whichever comes first.

Filtered Water-Ceramic Filters– Rust, dirt, parasites like Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia, and other impurities can be easily removed from drinking water by forcing the water through the very fine pores in ceramic material. They’re also ideal for travel or backpacking, since they can be repeatedly cleaned by simply scrubbing the outside of the ceramic material. Ceramic filters, however, are not effective at removing organic pollutants or pesticides.

Reverse Osmosis– Reverse osmosis (RO) is a process whereby water is forced through a semipermeable synthetic membrane. RO systems can remove anywhere from 90% to 98% of heavy metals, viruses, bacteria and other organisms, organic and inorganic chemicals. Reverse osmosis filtration will remove chlorine and chloramine but may not filter out all of the fluoride from the water. RO systems require a minimum water pressure of 40 psi to work properly, and steps must be taken to insure the integrity of the membrane, which has to be replaced every few years, since the membrane will degrade in the presence of chlorine and turbid water. This makes a carbon prefilter essential.

The best overall solution for clean pure water is multi-stage filtered reverse osmosis water from a local vendor, either delivered or by filling your own bottles. If you are drinking RO water and want to insure that you are getting water with extremely low fluoride levels then filter RO water through fluoride filters. Otherwise the best solutions are distilled water from your own quality distiller or spring/artesian water, with the best sources being Aqua Panna, Gerolsteiner and Pellegrino.

magnetic-field-lines-154887_150Over the last several years there has been an increasing amount of information concerning EMF’s (Electromagnetic Field) and their effect on health. As is often the case with complex technologies, the average person’s knowledge about EMF’s is limited and often contains inaccurate information. Since electromagnetic fields cannot normally be seen or touched, individuals must rely on information from those who study the properties and effects of this form of radiation. The goal of this post is to give an overview of EMF’s with a focus on what properties they have, their impact on humans, how they may benefit or negatively affect optimal health, and how to mitigate the negative effects they can cause.

An electromagnetic field (also EMF or EM field) is a physical field produced by electrically charged objects, such as power lines, transformers, electrical panels, building wiring, appliances, lighting, computers, telephones, cell phones, Bluetooth devices and even automobile engines. This field affects the behavior of charged objects in the vicinity of the field. This is a key fact to remember as we consider the properties of electromagnetic fields. The field can be viewed as the combination of an electric field and a magnetic field. The behavior of the electromagnetic field can be resolved into four different parts of a loop: The electric and magnetic fields are generated by electric charges, The electric and magnetic fields interact with each other, The electric and magnetic fields produce forces on charged particles, The electric charges move in space. The potential effects of electromagnetic fields on human health vary widely depending on the frequency and intensity of the fields. Due to the close proximity of electrical wiring in modern buildings, the typical person receives more EMF radiation from electrical wiring than any other source. The number two source is usually from cell phones, appliances, TVs and computers. The third largest exposure is often from power lines. The fourth largest is usually from automobiles, cell towers, etc.

EMF directly affects the brain by generating damaging excitatory activity in the the cells potentially leading to anxiety-related disorders, leptin resistance, autism, and brain cancers. A primary effect of EMF radiation is that the molecular clock in the brain, located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), as time elapses, may no longer be able to work precisely, leading to a myriad of symptoms and disorders in the brain and body. Studies have shown that EMF’s can adversely affect the pineal gland’s secretion of melatonin. Melatonin increases the effectiveness of the body’s natural killer lymphocytes, thus inhibiting tumor growth. The reduction of pineal gland function has been implicated in the development of breast, ovarian, prostate and melanoma cancers. Decreased melatonin levels have also been directly related to depression, mood changes and psychiatric disorders.

atjatszotorony-205456_640Tests have also shown that certain EMF frequencies, such as those produced by cell phones, have the effect of weakening the blood brain barrier, allowing toxic substances to be absorbed into the brain, that are normally blocked by this barrier. Except for visible light and infrared EMF, we can not perceive any of these energies without instruments designed to find them. The problem is our brain senses them all without sensation being perceived consciously. As a result of this, the vast majority of people are completely unaware of the massive increase of EMF radiation in our environment.

The electromagnetic energies that originally surrounded life were simple. There was the Schumann resonance, which was found to be 7.83 Hz, which essentially is a weak ELF electromagnetic field modulated by the micro-pulsations. There were random bursts of of static electricity from lightening centered at 10,000 Hz and they reverberated over the entire Earth’s surface at any time. 3000-5000 of these strikes happen simultaneously. Light was present from our sun. UV and infrared light were originally the most abundant forms of EMF on the surface of the planet for 4 billion years. Studies have shown that individuals subjected to a 7.83 Hz frequency tended to express that it resulted in their feeling ‘good’, while tests with other frequencies could cause various reactions from riotous behavior to depression.

In 1893 Nikola Tesla demonstrated the first AC power system at the World’s Fair. Thus began enormous changes to the EMF’s surrounding the Earth and affecting its inhabitants. The resulting gradual electrification of the cities, subjected city dwellers to the EMF fields generated by 60 cycle AC currents flowing in their houses and workplaces. Since World War II a vast array of different EMF has been added to the human and animal environment. The military and industry began to use shorter wavelengths and to bounce them off the ionosphere for long distance communication. The use of these ELF’s is incredibly damaging since these RF waves are never de-modulated, which means they last forever, continuing to bounce around within the Earth’s ionosphere.

Once cell phones were invented the surrounding sea of EMF grew exponentially, so that currently the first mile above the Earth’s surface is filled with 2 million times the amount of EMF that we were surrounded by in 1900. Humans have altered their electromagnetic background more than any other aspect of their environment. These changes have come over a very short period of time and the results on the human biologic system is clearly seen in the epidemiology of disease over the 20th century. We are literally swimming in an ocean of electromagnetic energies that life has never before had to deal with. Because these energies can’t be seen or easily felt, their effects are ignored by most individuals and kept under wraps by those who stand to gain monetarily from their proliferation.

The best we can do as individuals is to minimize the impact of undesirable EMF pollution and interference by taking the following precautions in order to support the body’s ability to respond to stress and maintain optimal health. The following list should be consulted, keeping in mind that the less you are exposed to these harmful EMF’s the better chance you have to remain in optimal health.

With the recognition that it is currently impossible to live a life free of this harmful radiation, the emphasis should always be to eliminate if possible and at the very least to minimize your exposure as much as possible.

The following recommendations will go a long way in decreasing your exposure to non-native EMF:

1) Do not live near high tension power lines.

2) Eliminate or properly shield Smart meters that have been installed by your electrical service provider.

3) Minimize the use of cell phones and always use the speakerphone option.

4) Minimize or eliminate the use of cordless phones at home and at work. Utilize a land line telephone at home and at work.

5) Avoid Bluetooth headsets and all other headsets except air-tube headsets.

6) Minimize or eliminate Wifi at home and at work. Utilize hard wired devices such as computers, tablets, mice, keyboards, printers, speakers, phones, security wiring. Minimize EMF influence by unplugging electrical appliances and Wifi routers when not in use and especially in the bedroom.

7) Utilize nonelectrical alternatives for home appliances. The Lehman’s Non-electric catalog is a great resource for this.

8) Minimize or avoid the use of microwave ovens.

Protein and mTOR

Proteins are large biological molecules, or macromolecules, consisting of one or more chains of amino acid residues.

Many proteins are enzymes that catalyze biochemical reactions and are vital to metabolism. Proteins also have structural or mechanical functions, such as actin and myosin in muscle and the proteins in the cytoskeleton, which form a system of scaffolding that maintains cell shape. Other proteins are important in cell signaling, immune responses, cell adhesion, and the cell cycle.

Proteins are also necessary in animals’ diets, since animals cannot synthesize all the amino acids they need and must obtain essential amino acids from food. Through the process of digestion, animals break down ingested protein into free amino acids that are then used in metabolism.
The nine essential amino acids are histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, L-tryptophan, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, and valine. Additionally, cysteine (or sulphur-containing amino acids), tyrosine (or aromatic amino acids), and arginine are required by infants and growing children. Also, the amino acids arginine, cysteine, glycine, glutamine, proline, serine and tyrosine are considered conditionally essential, meaning they are not normally required in the diet, but must be supplied to specific populations that do not synthesize them in adequate amounts.

Just as insulin serves as a sort of default sugar sensor and leptin serves as the body’s fat sensor, scientists have recently discovered that the mTOR pathway serves as the body’s protein sensor, monitoring the availability of protein, or amino acids, particularly leucine and methionine, for growth and reproduction. It is also impacted by insulin levels in the body. When protein levels are detected that are higher than basic maintenance requirements, the excess up-regulates the activity of the mTOR pathway, stimulating cellular proliferation and adverse mitochondrial effects, affecting the potential longevity of the individual. Increased insulin also has this effect. What is activated is our reproductive and cell-proliferating capacity.

Recent studies have shown that limiting dietary amino acids, especially methionine, inhibits mTOR signalling, which decreases mitochondrial damage and protein translation, resulting in slowed aging and improved health. Cellular proliferation occurs under three circumstances: reproduction, growth and cancer. The American Association of Cancer Research has stated that modified caloric restriction may offer a protective effect against the development of epithelial cancers.

If the amount of protein consumed stays below the threshold that stimulates cell proliferation, then ancient mechanisms kick in, which evolved to help the body outlive an apparent famine, by shutting down cell proliferation and up regulating repair and regeneration. In this case the body’s energy is conserved through maintaining our own cellular repair instead of producing new cells. This is dependent on ingesting just enough protein to meet the demands of our own repair, regeneration, and maintenance needs, which extend our longevity, optimize our health, and possibly reverse aging, without up-regulating mTOR or stimulating excessive insulin levels.

Following are some examples of the daily protein requirement based on different ideal body weights:

100 pound ideal body weight (45 kg) x .8 g= 36 g

125 pound ideal body weight (57 kg) x .8 g = 46 g

150 pound ideal body weight (68 kg) x .8 g= 54 g

175 pound ideal body weight (80 kg) x .8 g= 64 g

These amounts are sufficient for the vast majority of adults, while athletes would require a bit more, somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 to 80 grams per day.

It is also effective in treating gastrointestinal disorders such as stomach pains, indigestion, gas and bloating.

Osha Root (Ligusticum porteri): A traditional Native American herb used to support the body during periods of upper respiratory stress and congestion, Osha displays a strong affinity for the respiratory system supporting the elimination of mucous. For these reasons it is a staple in many herbal cough remedies. It also has antiviral and antimicrobial properties and supports proper functioning of the immune system. The Native Americans burned the root as an incense to ward off negative energies that could harm the physical or emotional body.

Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata ): Andrographis is a plant that is native to South Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka. The leaf and underground stem are used to make medicine. Andrographis is frequently used for preventing and treating the common cold and flu. Some people claim andrographis stopped the 1919 flu epidemic in India. Andrographis is used for sore throat, coughs, swollen tonsils, bronchitis, pneumonia and allergies. Andrographis is also used as an astringent, bacteria killing agent, painkiller and fever reducer. Andrographis might stimulate the immune system by improving the blood cell count.

I recommend the herbs chosen are in a liquid extract form when possible. Liquid extracts are generally the most potent, full spectrum and pollutant free form of herbal medicines.

Blend together in a 1 or 2oz dropper bottle, as an equal 6 part herbal formula.

This combination is a formidable defense against contracting common viruses. The formula also helps shorten the duration of the virus. This combination also aides in the prevention of secondary infections, such as sinus and ear, as well.

Fur Ball & Constipation Prevention for Cats

cat-111793_640 You know the story, hacking, tossing little cigar shaped fur pools and straining in the kitty box. Not fun for you or kitty. All this can become worse as she ages.

There is a simple and healthy way to prevent, and all but eliminate this syndrome. I have found that a nutritious combination of virgin coconut oil and psyllium husk powder mixed into some wet cat food daily does the trick.

Of course eliminating grains and most dry food from the diet is an enormous benefit to the overall health of your cat.

Here are 3 reasons to consider going grain free:

1) Cats naturally ate a primarily carnivore diet. Their teeth, digestive system, and natural prey all point to a primarily grain-free diet. Also,

2) Cats can have allergies just like humans. Gluten is a common allergen not only for humans, but also for cats. For that reason, grain or gluten-free pet food is becoming more common.

3) Grains fed to cats can make them gain weight and lead to obesity as they become less active.

Dry foods are constipating to cats as they absorb needed water from their digestive tracks and tend to bind them.

Another helpful ritual to control fur balls is regular brushing to remove excess under coat that can be ingested. It’s also an awesome way to bond with your cat.

Many people use common petroleum/mineral oil based pastes to control the problem, but the ingredients in these are a tremendous problem in themselves. Mineral oil is manufactured from crude oil, it’s a mixture of liquid hydrocarbons separated from petroleum. When administered orally, a cat may aspirate (breathe in) the oil. Mineral oil binds the fat soluble vitamins A, D and E and carries them un-absorbed out of the body. Furthermore, the hydrocarbons are known carcinogens to mammals.

Fish oils can also prove problematic. They can be too rich for some cats systems and actually cause vomiting. Also fish oils can be tainted with a variety of pollutants, such as PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls), mercury (and other heavy metals) and radiation.

Virgin coconut oil (preferably organic) is a safe and healthy oil to give your cat. Virgin coconut oil is rich in the essential fatty acids, the “good fats” that are recommend and is cholesterol – and trans-fat-free.

One of the “good fats”, which makes up about 50% of coconut oil, is lauric acid. Lauric acid is a rare medium-chain fatty acid. It’s now being shown to have anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial, health-protecting properties. It serves as a good intestinal lubricant to ease constipation as well. It’s also wonderful for your cat’s skin and fur. It will help give her fur a lustrous shine. It also tastes yummy to cats.

Psyllium husk powder is just a good all around soluble fiber that promotes healthy digestion. It helps bind the fur in the intestine and move it out.

I have used this recipe on my own cats with substantial success. They used to vomit every few days, and after adding this to their diets, it has all but stopped. The recipe as is follows:

  • Heat a little clean water
  • Add about ¼ tsp coconut oil to the water
  • Mix in the wet cat food
  • Mix in about ¼ tsp psyllium powder

GMO Myths and Truths

corn-61771_150Genetically Modified (GM) crops have recently been getting more and more press due to the concerns that many people have about how safe they are for human or animal consumption.

Many of the claims, made by the GM Crop Industry and its supporters, are not true. These crops can be toxic, allergenic or less nutritious than their natural counterparts, aren’t adequately regulated to ensure safety, don’t increase crop yield, and don’t reduce pesticide use but increase it.
These GM crops also create serious problems for farmers, including herbicide-tolerant “superweeds”, compromised soil quality, and increased disease susceptibility in crops.

The most common crops that contain Genetically Modified Organisms are soy, corn and wheat, although the GM industry is rapidly creating other GM crops, such as GM alfalfa, a recent addition to this list. Corn, soy and alfalfa are commonly used as feed for livestock, including cattle, dairy cows, pigs, chickens, farm raised fish, as well as horses.

logoThere have been a number of different studies that have demonstrated the harmful physiological effects of GM ‘foods’. One study showed that GM DNA finds its way into human gut bacteria, with potentially harmful effects. Other studies have  shown that Roundup (glyphosate), which is used on these GM crops, has an adverse effect on these same gut bacteria, leading to various health problems. An additional study found that GM corn and roundup caused tumors and organ damage in the lab animals.

If an individual eats a diet to achieve and maintain optimal health, they will be eating significant amounts grains and/or beans and as a result should drastically reduce their intake of health destroying crops by eating only GMO Free or Organically Grown grains and beans. The problem for those eating animal products is that, as stated above, the meat, eggs and fish that they eat will contain GM DNA , unless they are consuming certified organically raised meats, eggs and wild caught seafood. Meats and eggs from animals that are verified as being raised on organic pastures, would also be free of GM DNA.

The best solution is to avoid all animal products completely.

There is currently a strong movement by some concerned groups to require food producers to list GMO ingredients on the product labels. Other groups object to this because they feel that having them in the ingredient list serves to legitimize the GM substances, when these substances should clearly be banned completely from food products, due to their harmful effects.

For those interested in achieving and maintaining optimal health, the best approach here is to assiduously avoid GM containing foods.

What About Vegetarianism ?

Vegetarianism started becoming popular in the U.S. at the end of the 1960’s, with the birth of the Hippie Movement.

Most of these vegetarians based their reasons for eating a vegetarian diet on what they considered to be moral, spiritual, natural, and healthful principles.

“The idea that humans must consume animal flesh and excretions as part of a balanced diet is a monstrous myth that is quietly murdering billions of humans, animals and the environment. Heart Disease, Cancer, Stroke, Diabetes and the other 15 leading causes of human death have now been repeatedly verified and concluded through scientific meta-studies to be caused by the consumption of animal products. Furthermore, switching to a plant-based diet has proven to reverse almost all of them!

“The following documentary proves beyond any reasonable doubt that humans are NOT natural omnivores or carnivores, in fact every organ in our bodies is that of a frugivore/herbivore, and our choice to believe otherwise is slowly killing all of our friends, human and animal.:

The entire top three levels of the traditional pyramid (meat, dairy, refined fats/sugars) are not, by any means, necessary or conducive to good health.

There is not a single vitamin, mineral, nutrient, phyto-nutrient, amino-acid, fatty-acid, protein-chain, omega, or any other such elusive vital ingredient to health, not a single thing found in meat or dairy products that cannot be found, in greater abundance and more optimally, in the plant kingdom. For instance there are more omegas in seaweed than in fish, over twice as much protein in spinach than steak, and four times more calcium in sesame seeds than in milk.

Meat and dairy products are highly acidic, fattening, cholesterol-laden, artery-clogging, lymph-clotting, mucus-forming, constipating, difficult to digest, and full of worms, parasites, bacteria, metabolic waste, hormones, and chemicals. Eggs are actually unfertilized avian menstrual cycles, otherwise known as chicken periods. Milk is the puss and hormone-filled mammary excretions of a female cow and meant to nourish her young. None of these animal bits and pieces are beneficial or necessary for human consumption.

There is not a single chronic disease or deficiency exclusive to vegans. However, heart disease, cancer, tumors, cysts, MS, diabetes, and many other major health problems have all been cured by switching to a 100% vegan diet. Some of the strongest animals in nature like gorillas, elephants, moose, rhinos, hippos, and giraffes are all vegetarians. The idea that you need to eat another animal’s flesh to be strong is a ridiculous superstition.

Our human anatomy is undeniably designed to subsist on plant foods and not on animal flesh; literally every aspect of our bodies proves we are herbivore/frugivores and not carnivore/omnivores.

To begin with, humans and other natural vegetarians have 4x longer, convoluted intestinal tracts perfect for slow digesting fruits and starches, whereas omnivore/carnivores have 4x shorter intestines to quickly push out the acidic, putrefying animal flesh they eat.

Humans have alkaline saliva ptyalin to pre-digest grains, alkaline urine, and weak stomach acid whereas all omnivore/carnivores have acidic saliva, acidic urine, and 10-1000x stronger hydrochloric stomach acid essential for digesting meat.

All natural flesh-eaters also secrete the enzyme “uricase” necessary to metabolize the uric acid in meat, but uricase is not produced by our human bodies.

Humans have lateral jaw movement and flat molars for grinding grains and vegetables whereas natural flesh eaters have no lateral jaw movement and scores of huge fangs for biting and ripping. Humans have short, weak fingernails whereas carnivores and omnivores have long, strong, sharp claws for cutting through skin and flesh. Humans must take in Vitamin C from our food whereas all carnivores and most omnivore’s bodies produce their own Vitamin C. Natural omnivores and carnivores also have a microbial tolerance far higher than humans. For example the botulinum toxin which is deadly to humans but is easily and safely digested by natural flesh-eaters.

Humans eating a high fat diet become obese, lazy, and diseased whereas natural flesh eaters stay trim, energetic and absolutely thrive on their high fat diet. Human vision is easily able to differentiate various colors making it simple to discern ripe from unripe plant foods, whereas the color vision of most omnivore/carnivores is far less discerning. Humans sleep only 6-12 hours a day like most herbivore/frugivores, whereas most omnivore/carnivores sleep 18-20 hours a day. Humans sweat from pores all over our bodies whereas all carnivores and most omnivores release perspiration from their tongues. Humans have single births and two mammary glands whereas most all omnivores and carnivores birth litters of several babies have have rows upon rows of mammary glands.

“In using comparative anatomy to determine what man was ‘meant’ to eat, we should look at the species most similar to man, namely the anthropoid apes – chimpanzees, gibbons, gorillas, and orangutans. Of all animals, man’s digestive organs and teeth most closely resemble these apes. In captivity, some of these animals will eat meat if forced to rather than starve to death. But in the wild, all eat a vegetarian diet. Another strong clue that man is naturally a vegetarian is the fact that vegetarians in general are much healthier than omnivores. The American Dietetic Association has acknowledged that vegetarians are less at risk for a number of chronic diseases, including heart disease, some types of cancer, obesity, high blood pressure, and adult-onset diabetes … Eating a healthy diet goes far beyond cutting back a bit on red meat. In a recent study of 6,500 Chinese, Dr. T. Collin Campbell of Cornell found that even though the Chinese overall eat only a fraction of the animal protein Americans do, those who ate the least animal protein nonetheless had lower risk of disease than the average Chinese. Dr. Campbell concludes, ‘We’re basically a vegetarian species and should be eating a wide variety of plant foods and minimizing our intake of animal foods.'” -Glen Kime, president, Vegetarian Society of Washington, D.C.

All omnivores and carnivores eat their meat raw, tearing through fur/skin, and lapping up the nutrient-rich blood with their tongues. A true omnivore like a bear will take a fish out of the water and swallow it whole, uncooked, scales, bones, fins, head and everything. When a lion kills an herbivore for food, it tears right into the stomach area to eat the raw stomach, liver, intestines, and other organs that are filled with blood and nutrients. They will NOT eat cooked meat. For most humans, the smell and taste of raw bloody meat is putrid, so in order to consume it they must first clean, cook, season and marinate the flesh in various vegetarian herbs and spices to make it palatable.

“The final point I would like to make on how we as humans were not meant to eat meat is this. All omnivorous and carnivorous animals eat their meat raw. When a lion kills an herbivore for food, it tears right into the stomach area to eat the organs that are filled with blood (nutrients). While eating the stomach, liver, intestine, etc., the lion laps the blood in the process of eating the dead animals flesh. Even bears that are omnivores eat salmon raw. However, eating raw or bloody meat disgusts us as humans. Therefore, we must cook it and season it to buffer the taste of flesh. If a deer is burned in a forest fire, a carnivorous animal will NOT eat its flesh. Even circus lions have to be feed raw meat so that they will not starve to death. If humans were truly meant to eat meat, then we would eat all of our meat raw and bloody. The thought of eating such meat makes one’s stomach turn. This is my point on how we as humans are conditioned to believe that animal flesh is good for us and that we were meant to consume it for survival and health purposes. Oil Pulling for Oral Health

This is actually an ancient health practice that has its origin in Ayurvedic Medicine, a system of traditional medicine native to India.

Oil pulling is essentially using a food grade oil as a mouthwash to pull bacteria and other harmful substances from the mouth, with a particular emphasis on swishing the oil between the teeth, in order to draw bacteria out from the gum line.

Sesame oil was the oil traditionally used for this practice, but many people find that Coconut Oil is more palatable, while also containing Lauric Acid, which has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effects.

Here’s how you oil pull:

The best time to do this practice is in the morning before eating.

Place about 2 teaspoons of oil in your mouth.

Solid coconut oil will become liquid when it warms up in your mouth.

Also, coconut oil is a bit thicker than sesame oil, but will thin out as it mixes with your saliva.

Swish the oil between your teeth for 10 to 20 minutes, while avoiding swallowing it.

The oil pulls bacteria and viruses, which shouldn’t be ingested.

Spit the oil out and thoroughly rinse your mouth with clean water.

How long and how often to oil pull should depend on whether you’re trying to maintain or improve your dental and oral health.
